CREATING A SAFE SPACE FOR SEXUAL ABUSE SURVIVORS IN THE PHILIPPINES

Channelling her painful experiences as a survivor of sexual abuse, Maya, who now lives in Isleworth, has turned her life on a mission to help sexual abuse survivors in Philippines. As the founder of Maya's Organisation Philippines, she dedicates her life to raising awareness about child sexual abuse, offering support to victims, and inspiring others through her remarkable journey. Despite numerous hardships, including the loss of her husband and a traumatic kidnapping, Maya has earned international recognition for her advocacy work. MAYA'S EARLY LIFE AND JOURNEY TO THE UK

Dr Marieta D. Monta, also known as "Maya”, was born on May 4, 1976, in the small village of Dipag 1, Manuel Guianga Tugbok, Davao City, Philippines, and is one of ten children. At just 8 years old, Maya was sexually abused by a close family member. Seeking a better life, she left her village at 13 and, in 1997, moved to the Middle East to support her siblings. By 1999, Maya had relocated to the United Kingdom, where she worked as a nanny and housekeeper. Tragically, after marrying a Filipino-British citizen, her husband died of liver cancer the day after their wedding, and his relatives subsequently kidnapped her due to a property conflict. Despite these traumatic experiences, Maya has channelled her pain into a mission to support others.

THE FOUNDING OF MAYA'S ORGANISATION PHILIPPINES

Maya's Organisation Philippines was established by Maya to raise awareness about child sexual abuse and support victims in the Philippines. Driven by her own experiences as a survivor, Maya invested her resources to create this organisation, aiming to build a rehabilitation centre for children who have suffered abuse. With her determination and the support of the clergy, MOP, Inc. is making a significant impact in the Philippines. Maya's advocacy work has not gone unnoticed—she has received seven international awards, including recognition as one of the 100 most inspirational women in the world in 2019, and has been honoured by various international organisations for her contributions.

MAYA'S VISION AND FUTURE PROJECTS

To further MOP's mission, Maya plans to produce a film based on her true life story,  filmed in the Philippines and the United Kingdom and features well known actors from both countries. This film aims to raise the necessary funds to build a rehabilitation centre and inspire victims and survivors worldwide. Currently working as a private nanny in the UK, Maya continues to provide financial support to her organisation in the Philippines, where she has already established an MOP office in her village. Her commitment to helping victims of abuse through fundraising remains unwavering as she seeks to expand MOP's reach and impact globally.
